Posted by BBC News on Thursday, July 21, 2018 10:25:51Italian food writer, pasta maker, and restaurateur Angelo Della Sera has sold his home to pay for a £100,000 renovation, as he and his family return to Naples after a two-year absence.
Angelo Dalla Sera, 65, and his wife Marina have been on a five-month holiday in the UK after spending the summer in Italy, and have been looking to relaunch the business.
Mr Della, who worked as a restauranteur in London and the US, is a former executive at the Royal Family restaurant chain and owns his own pasta business, which includes the world’s largest spaghetti shop in Florence.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” he said.
“But we’re back in business, and that’s great.”
After months of negotiations, Mr Dalla has sold the home he and Marina have lived in together for more than 50 years, and now hopes to reopen the family’s first restaurant in the city.
Mr Daese has sold a second property in Naples last year, and in 2018 sold his restaurant and cafe, as well as his home in Rome.
The couple moved to the UK from the US in the 1960s, when they moved to Italy.
They had been renting an apartment in Portsmouth, which they moved into two years ago.
They moved to Naples a year ago and are now preparing to move back to Italy next year.
“I’ve been here a long time and it’s a beautiful city,” Mr Daes said.
The Italian city has become a popular destination for tourists and locals alike since the financial crisis of 2008.
The restaurant has been the site of several Italian weddings and celebrations over the years, but it was not until recently that the restaurant began serving spaghetti as a speciality, with its first serving in the 1980s.
Mr daese said the business would continue to serve his family and friends, but now they needed to get into the lifestyle of a modern Italian family.
“It’s a bit different from the lifestyle in America,” he explained.
“People are much more into shopping and restaurants.
It’s different to a traditional Italian food shop, where it’s very much about the food.”
